Feathers and Feelings: A Very Special Documentary Project

Lights, cameras, clucks!
This past November we premiered a very special documentary on the benefits of Chicken Therapy film at Teal Shores in Mequon, Wisconsin. The viewing brought together residents and family members to enjoy a heartwarming evening.
Chicken Therapy
Over the last 6 months, we’ve been collaborating with Jodi Wilterdink of Touching Hearts at Home to create a film documenting Jodi’s incredible story and how she began offering Chicken Therapy.
Chicken Therapy has proven to bring immense fulfillment to those who participate. In a society where old age is widely considered to be associated with decline, disease, and disability; Chicken Therapy has presented a very different image of older people as active, enjoying life, and making a contribution to their local communities.
The film explores what began at the beginning of 2020, amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, with a hobby of raising baby chicks as companions and slowly morphed into the idea of Chicken Therapy. We were excited to join Jodi at two Chicken Therapy sessions and at her home to capture this story. Seeing the interactions that the residents had with the chickens and the joy they brought to their days was inspiring.
Through Chicken Therapy, Jodi has touched the lives of countless seniors in the Milwaukee area and continues to do so today.
Alongside Jodi, the film features Teal Shores resident Norma.
Norma is 93 years young and has been a driving force for Chicken Therapy. We had the privilege of sitting down with Norma for an interview, she told us how Chicken Therapy has positively impacted her life and even brought back memories and feelings of motherhood. Norma was also previously interviewed by Fox 6 as they covered another Chicken Therapy event.
The premiere event took place at Teal Shores in Mequon so that Norma could join us for the first viewing of the film, it was an incredibly special night. We were so excited that eight members of her family were able to join us for the premiere of the film. There were chickens dressed to 9’s complete with a red carpet walk and live music performance. Over seventy-five residents and family members attended the red carpet premiere but it was the chickens that truly stole the show. It was a night filled with laughter and tears and we couldn’t have asked for a more special way to debut the film!
We’re excited to share the documentary with everyone in 2024!
